Hello all, I have a Windows 2000 machine that has had the background changed when you go to log on.

The screen, where you press ctrl+alt+del, then enter your username and password.  The background for this is normally blue, but has been changed to a picture that I would like to remove.  Unfortunetly, I don't now how to change this background.

you'll probably find the culprit in the registry at this location:
HKEY_USERS on Local Machine\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

just remove the offending string
