Hi All,

A quick question for everyone. I have a PC running Windows 10 (Upgraded through the free upgrade path from Windows 7 (i have a Win 7 DVD disc)), how do I transfer this licence to a new PC that won't have a Optical drive?

Is it possible\straight forward?

Is it just easier to buy a new Win 11 Digital Licence ?

If was a retail Win 7 license, just install 10 from USB (via the tool from MS), and input the license key.

If its an OEM license, then officially, you cant do it and need to purchase a new license.

Windows 10 will run for "free" but does have a watermark and limits customization options.

Run from command prompt

slmgr.vbs /dlv

OEM Windows 7 license usually has a sticker affixed to the case, while Retail does not come with sticker.

Just link your Microsoft account to the licence

If the license has already been activated, its tied to that hardware. So moving to completely new system won't work.  Unless you call MS and BS them.
