I have used Macrium Reflect Free Edition for my Windows Backups. I have just found out that Macrium will stop the Free edition from 2024 and need to find an ongoing replacement that has similar features to Macrium.  The cost per licence of over $100 dollars US is out of my league and I have several PC's that need to be backed up.

Any suggestions on a replacement for Macrium that is easy to use and reliable

I have been a user of Duplicati on a number of machines. Works well easy to setup and very light weight. Can backup to the cloud (Aws/backblaze/etc.) too.

It does not do images, so use the windows system image backup (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and Restore (Windows 7)) for that until it disappears

The Windows Backup in control panel works very well.
It gives you the option to do a system image as well as the usual file/folder backup ** make the image as well :-)

2 issues with it
- image restore wont restore to a smaller hard drive, even if its only 1byte smaller . No issue if its the same HD or bigger.
no issue if just restoring files (ie not a full image restore)
- Ive had it not backup when the backup drive is full. I should delete old backups, but doesnt allways .

You can keep using the free edition, they just won't be upgrading or patching it.

There's also Paragon Backup and Recovery Free. I haven't used it, I just found this review. It would be interesting to try this out compared with Veeam. I might get around to it one day, hopefully someone with more time can give both a shot.

I've used EaseUS ToDo Backup for a couple of years and found it very reliable .... lots of bells-and-whistles to play with if necessary.

Best part is that one can Restore just parts of the backup ... e.g. I once 'lost' an email and easily drilled down to find the relevant Folder to Restore (to a temp holding spot) which I imported to Outlook, et voila 😁
