Had a search here and I see a few of you are using LightsOut and was wondering if:

1. When first installed you where asked to disable the SBCore service
2. You had this issue
3. Had any long term affects disabling this service.

I followed the info from the source by "click on profile you want to disable service in (you may have only one profile)

click disable "

Running WHS server power pack 1 and LightsOut ver 0.7.7

Hi Lipex666

I'm running Lights Out ver 0.7.7.122 and recall (as it was some time back) doing a reg hack to ensure this service would not run when I set the app up.

I've used the LightsOut app for 9+ months with no probs and have not encountered any issues by disabling the SBCore service.

Cheers, Paul.

Thanks paul151

Have a look at this I really need to check if this addon actually works as the server seems to be on and hopefully its actually in a suspended mode.

Whats the best way with WHS suspend or hibernation?  I dont want to try hibernation in case it screws all the data!

Is this the best addon to use for powermanagment?

I want to somehow just turn the WHS off in the morning and and back on at night when we are home.

Any suggestions please.

The lights out addin is the best power manager I have come across so yes I would give it the thumbs up.

Home server is based on Windows server 2003. The SBCore service is a hangover from that past. It is not needed in the home server enviroment so disabling it does not do any harm. If you don't disable it though your home server will constantly wake up.

I suspend my home server and have never had any issues. Because lights out will wake up the home server when I PC is started up there in no need to set it to a schedule to wake up when you are at home. With the agents on the clients whenever any client PC starts up the home server will also start. Then if all the PC's are shut down (or put to sleep) then the home server will also go to sleep.

I do have mine set to say awake during daylight hours but only because I want to be able to access it remotely.

Hi there,

Agree with Nety you probably don't need to use the calendar unless you want the server awake at certain times of the day/week when you want to remote in from outside the home.

I have my server set to monitor the clients and to wake up and stay awake while any client is running. The WHS then waits a further 10 mins after it hears from the last awake client then hibernates.

I have had no problem with hibernation and found that I could not use suspend as an option as my lan card did not seem to like to wake up the server using this state.

I will try to attach a screen shot of my config for you, note I have some boxes not monitored which is deliberate as they either run 24/7 and would keep the WHS awake all the time or they are not shutdown by responsible users (aka my teen daughter).

Cheers, Paul

Thanks Nety  and paul151 I will try the auto wake option and remove the calender entries, see you config would be great as well.

Hi Paul great thanks all now working, all I had to do was set to wait for 10 mins then hibernate.

Left the calendar alone and all is working well.

I have enabled one xp, 1 vista and one W7 pc amnd all woke up the home server. This addon works really well.
