I'm interested to see who has seen/touched/edited/forwarded an excel document, before it came ito my hands.  If I go into the properties, I can see who created it, and who recently edited it, but I'm interested in any of the inbeteen.

Does anyone have any clever ideas? It's not an online document linked to sharepoint or anything.

Thanks guys,

Liken it to a letter in your letterbox.
You can't see all the hands that have touched it along the way. Vs a labelled one that gets scanned at each point.

Kind of the same. Cloud shared ones need a login and there is an audit trail associated.

A standalone file, not so much. So you won't be able to see where it's been between the source and you. Other than some track changes features if they've licenced/logged in when the documents edited.

Does this help?

mind you it might be related to designated shared workbooks (not standalone)…

That's the defining gotcha in the official form..

It's only for edits (not view). And excluding anything not using a logged in 365 acct.

Edits made using a one-time purchase or older version of Excel can’t be tracked and will also clear the Changes pane

Is Changes different from History? I haven’t touched Excel or Word for years but it regularly used to feature when a document was circulated publicly with history intact showing just who was promoting what in the edits.
