its a great system and ceratianly makes vista look sicker than it already is

However......couple of issues i have found

.Internet explorer 8 from desktop first start (eg clicking on desktop shortcut) only opens up in minimum size.even after maxing it, the memory does not remember to open full each time i open the IE8

another thing is..i tried to reinstall IE8 onto the windows 7 but error message comes "unknown operating system"..so the only way you can install/uninstall is via the add/remove windows components option in control panal

other issue...no quick link facility next to start on task bar which means no "show desktop" link..it does have a glimpse desktop button to the far right of task bar..but its an awkward position there and has no position adjustment

anyone have any clues on remedies?

i am aware of the "pin to taskbar" option..however the icons are all exactly the same when place there ,so its hard to distinguish between menu icons.

one other thing

the network connection icon in task bar does not show traffic ..just a blank signal strength icon..i often look to that to observe what the network communication is doingh

There is no issue on Internet Explorer 8 install. It's documented (you read the documentation right?) that Windows 7 is a Release Candidate and it's using a different code of Internet Explorer 8 - so you can't "update" Internet Explorer 8. You can apply Windows Update patches and fixes (there are two already), but you can't uninstall/install the Internet Explorer 8 RTM.

To show the desktop you can move the mouse pointer to the bottom right and click that area - or use [Window Key] - M.

am aware of the taskbar optionto quick jump to desktop and the windows key only opens the start menu

re IE8 ..no didnt not read documentation fully...reason being, in past operating systems they have not locked in the internet explorer on RC , windows ME and XP as examples, so did not consider they would in this instance.

overall i find the windows 7 and excellent sysytem..but for ME ( being used to and spoilt by the XP system) am used to some aspects of previoue OS such as XP. perhaps that is why they have brought out the Virtual Xp to run in windows 7!

Why would they have changed it from Windows-D? Oh, I see, I think Windows-M is "minimize all" not quite the same thing.

With Windows-D you can press it again to bring the windows back up. :)

neither of the "windows M and D" work on the windows 7.most of the standard fucntions( software and hardware) are muted by the OS.

a lot of the OEM software is also defunct

Windows Key + M and Windows Key + D works fine for me on 64bit Windows 7

You need to press both the windows key AND the D key. Your right just pressing the windows key will open the start menu.

not really.."problem only showed up straight after windows 7 install..however as i mentioned previous, the OS has muted OEM hardware drivers and software...eg..i no longer have NVIDIA graphics

the quick launch keyson the keyoard fucntion as normal..email,internet, etc..howevere the windows fucntions keys are dead

its no biggie..but prefer the taskbar quick access

Have you tried installing the latest Win7 drivers from nvidia.com? Have you installed drivers for your keyboard (if they exist)? I've got a G15 that works just fine with Win7.

i am impressed enough to now set up and install the windows 7 onto the wifes 2 core desktop

its simply a matter of reorientering myself around the new OS

I know what you mean. It takes a bit of getting used to using CTRL-ALT-DEL, K again!
