Last night i finally finished the XP>Vista>7 Upgrade and went to enable all my startup items in msconfig which i had disabled for the update. Unfortunately when i reenabled them all i forgot one, my anti virus, and hit exit without restart and ticked that inviting little box saying don't ask me this again.

Unfortunately this box seems to mean that any alteration in MSCONFIG is undone when you tick apply or ok now, so when i went to reenable my Anti Virus on startup, it repeatedly unticked the box.

Repair install of anti virus did not work so i will try a reinstall, but for the future, how the hell do i undo that tick box?

Cheers Guys

I doubt that's the case, but anyways, you can always open Regedit and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg
to restore/delete a disabled startup item manually.

In future though, I would recommend using Autoruns instead of MSConfig. It's more advanced, regularly updated, and easy to use (Shows icons, for starters :P).

Autoruns? Is this a windows thing or third party? I'd google it but the net is at dial up rates for non-nz sites tonight. After the lightening storm it all went to custard, old stiff custard

edit: or, Start->Run: \\live.sysinternals.com\tools\autoruns.exe

Sysinternals was third party, but MS bought them out: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx

I have had a look at autoruns, it is an amazing little program. Thanks for suggesting it and your time.

Upgrading like that XP > Vista > 7 can often produce a few oddities.

Any reason why you didn't do a clean install to 7 and start with a fresh/clean slate?
