Evening ppls,

I have a Windows XP Pro OEM CD here which I have used since buying new, now I'm in the process of updating my motherboard, CPU and Ram, due to the original dying a fast and rather painful death afew months back.

Will this still activate ok? or will I have to ring MS and answer the 20 questions?

Original machine was custom built by me :)

Yea if the last time it was activated is more than about 6 months ago then it should be fine.
If it was within 6 months then you would have to call the 0800 # and tell them you only have it installed on the one PC.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

MS never really ask any questions about reactivation anyway.... I usually get "why are you reinstalling" - "new hdd" is my usual answer and thats it.
No questions why its a new HDD, mobo, CPU, video etc etc..... :)

Here's the simplest step in doing the activation:

Ring the Microsoft 0800 number (0800 676 334)
Press 2 and then 2 again - this will ask for the Product ID to be entered (this is for the Windows activation option) - update the product key if you haven't done so already and re-enter the product key on the COA
It will read out the number - press 1 to continue
Should be all over in about 3 minutes depending on how fast your fingers are and listening has got to be sharp =)

Easy!
