Saw this at the IngramMicro roadshow... It will be available in New Zealand soon, with one HDD (up to four HDD), Intel Atom CPU, 1 GB RAM, five USB ports, one eSATA port. Nice little unit that goes well on a desk I think :)

I'd love it if they would bring in a clean version with no OS. Would make a lovely Linux based server/NAS.

Damn. Can't they get an OS-free version? Otherwise it is cheaper to build my own.

Right now, I'm looking at a Chenbro chassis to buy from the US for around NZ$400, plus 4x 1TB drives at $150 each. I've got the mini-ITX board with CPU, RAM and a 2.5 HDD for the system.

Chassis: http://usa.chenbro.com/corporatesite/products_detail.php?sku=79
Drives: from PriceSpy (two WDs, two Samsungs for redundancy)

A clean version would be very nice to install freenas or similar on.

I saw this at the IM roadshow as well but they didn't know anything about it.

I bought an Acer Easystore NAS a few months ago and was disappointed to see it only supported the Ext2 file system.  I would have liked to see it use Ext3 or Ext4 which are journalling file systems and can therefore recover data in the event of a crash.

Also the firmware is not compatible with the version of NT Backup used on SBS 2003, which was a nuisance since that's the primary reason I had bought it.

I'll only be interested in this new Home Server NAS if it has better firmware and file system.

This unit runs Windows Home Server. It's "NAS" in the name only.
