Hi

I'm looking for recommendations for a video editor that's easy to use (home usage) but has the following features:

 - Open, save and work with DVD format (MPEG-2)
 - Should be able to extract the audio from the video and add audio from external file (Or be able to delete clips from the source without cutting the audio stream)
 - Subtitles
 - Adding static/scrolling text to video
 - Credits screen
 - Define custom chapters and create navigation menus

Also, it'd be real handy if the program doesn't have to re-code the entire file whenever the save button is pressed. I'm trying to create a single-disk video out of something that's spread across 10 DVDs, so I'd like to just be able to select the clips that I want, save the file, then change the DVD, add more clips, save, change.. and so on, without having to perform any encoding/conversion.

I surveyed the video editor products 2 years ago and bought Pinnacle Studio Ultimate V11 (from Ascent). It's a big step up from MovieMaker. A later version of Studio is now available but I haven't reviewed it for new features.

I suggest you check out the reviews for Pinnacle on the web and look at the articles where products are compared to each other. There may be new products.

Good luck.

I recommend Pinnacle Studio 12 to all my clients who want to edit their own videos. Its the most powerful video editing software that that offers a small learning curve on the market.

Other options are Adobe Premiere Elements - though the learning curve is much higher but does offer more powerful again options. Ulead video studio is also okay but would be my least favorite of these 3 titles.

Have a look here as well - they have a run down on a few packages etc.

I just came across this basic site:http://www.aboutvideoediting.com/

There was another one I used to go to but cant remember the name of it.
I have used Pinnacle products and yes they are usually not to bad to get up to speed.
Adobe Products are notoriously more difficult but obviously more featured.
Currently im using Corel Video Studio which is probably similar to Pinnacle products.
