Where are you based? I can give you a hand if you are in Auckland.

I'm doing the whole live mix in software, no desk, no snake, no rack, everything in the virtual realm. 48 channels over firewire, 24in/24out, in realtime with potential for 72in and 24 independant monitor mixes.

Drooling yet?

I'm using a Presonus FireStudio, which has 26in/26out over firewire when used with ADAT DACs. I'm using two Behringer ADA8000's. Latencies are down to about 3ms.

The software is SAC (Software Audio Console) and is specifically designed for live work. It allows you to use pretty much any DX or VST plugin for effects, EQ etc and is incredibly flexible. It even allows you to use a remote mode where you can mix from a wireless laptop and even have multiple engineers working on the same mix.

It is a totally revolutionary way of doing FOH if you can get away from not having physical pieces of kit. You can still get the tactile feel of a console through the use of a controller, I use a Behringer BCF2000.

I'm hoping to replace the Presonus with some RME gear which allows for 32 or 64 channels and latencies down to about 1.5ms.

Let me know if you are interested in setting up a rig ;-)
