Hi,

Im new to this site and am having some issues with my Laptop. Its a Compaq Presario V6000 with Vista Home Premium.

When I try to update Windows or Defender I get an error code on each so I cant do any updating the error codes are

Windows Update - 80004002

Windows Defender - 0x80004002

I have rung Microsoft and was on the phone with a technician for nearly an hour.

I got told to try these and did

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/956708

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935791

and a few others which I cant find. Also tried starting the computer with out extras plugging the laptop into the modem rather then having it as wireless.

Does anyone know how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated it has been like this for a couple of month nows.

Are you running Windows Vista, Windows Vista SP1 or Windows Vista SP2?

SP2 will only install if your drivers are up-to-date. Perhaps this is what's causing the problem?

Check that all drivers are up-to-date, then try manually installing SP2.

You will have to look in Device Manager to see. Mostly you have to worry about network interfaces and video cards.

Visit the laptop manufacturer site. Check the product and see if there is any driver issued AFTER you bought the laptop. Then update as required.

Make sure you have a backup of your data!
