I asked Microsoft PR and there isn't any midnight events. There will be events in Auckland (Queen Elizabeth Square) and Wellington (Civic Squar) from 8am. There will be notebook and OS giveaways in both.

I remember back in 1995 I think Whitcoulls in downtown Auckland opened at midnight for the Windows 95 Launch and the first person who brought it got to speak to Bill Gates on the phone.

Christchurch too, I think Dick Smith opened at midnight. Even The Warehouse was selling it.

we were going to do a midnight launch, just so we could be the first. But our microsoft account manager asked us "nicely" not to.. grr..
So we opened at 8, had 2 people waiting, had the local paper down here taking photos..
At present we have ZM outside, broadcasting from our shop, sausage sizzle etc, and we are giving away a laptop at 2pm.

What a joke really  see NZ retail offers here wow what a blank page. The one link to Noel Leeming is just a static web page and no onlne store.  I was hoping to see Windows 7 special offers on pricing like a family pack for example, purchase online etc.  Plus a like to the UK shop and prices in pounds WTF

All the hype and nothing!!!!

I feel Microsoft and retailers have missed the ball here.

The link to Noel leeming has now been fixed.  $599 for Win 7 U thats a joke$389 for HP far to much.

Come on Microsoft where is the family deal?

This is really driving people to get anew PC has its half the cost and some lappys are only $800 retail.

I've decided not to upgrade for the moment. Cost is way too high, especially if you have multiple computers.

I'll use my RC version until March and decide then what to do.

Having just moved to Aussie, I am experiencing better deals (when you purchase with Aussie money of course).

Home Premium is AU$199 at Harvey Norman and I am sure you can haggle the price down even more.

OS Giveaways? I was at the Auckland event (Made a special trip, Left home at 5:30am *yawn* I don't work in the city). I didn't see any copies of the OS given away. Was I on the 'wrong side' of the square I wonder?

Actually a little disappointing. Was there anything in the way of product actually on the shelves today?

Can't say it was a total flop though I guess, as I did come away with an umbrella (that broke as soon as it was opened for the big photo shoot) and a Windows 7 cap. Oh and a pen.

Oh well, maybe next time!
