hi people, i have got windows 7 installed and everything is sweet as.
my only problem is that my wireless internet wont work anymore. i can successfully connect to the internet via Ethernet cable.
i can pick up the wireless signal, but when i choose to connect, it says 'connecting is taking longer than usual'
then it goes into all the trouble shooters and network diagnostics and says 'windows cant resolve this issue'
i went into device manager and it claims that my drivers are already up to date  -.-
driver type:  ralink
version 4.0.3.0.
also it says it is working properly.
i checked windows update and downloaded the driver that it found. still not working after that.
wireless works on all other laptops in the house, just not mine =[
please someone help?
thanks.

Are you sure the wireless router is not doing MAC filtering?

my sister recently came home from university, and for the first time, she logged on to the wireless
with no trouble at all.

I bet its a driver issue. What kind of card have you got? Things using RALink chips have had driver issues, including my Linksys WMP54G...

i have a card using Ralink :S =[
in device manager it says: 802.11 mini card wireless adaptor
ralink technology corp.
port 0002 hub 0003
this device is working properly.

driver details:
ralink
29/7/2009
version 4.0.3.0.

when i select update it says the best driver has already been installed
and windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.

the wireless light on my laptop just flashes on every now and then.
then im prompted with troubleshooter.
this resets my adaptor and everything then says windows troubleshooter cannot find the problem

Whats the model number of your laptop? May be can find out what wifi card is in it (My Linksys lists as a Ralink) and find some suitable drivers.

I think you will get nowhere contacting the chipset manufacturer. For laptop drivers you have to contact the OEM - in this case NEC.

i contacted NEC as per your advice =]
still waiting for a reply.....
i looked on their website but they only have drivers for vista and xp listed in their downloads section.
ill hopefully get a email soon, telling me where to find windows 7 drivers.
im hoping like crazy that they have the answer, surely i cant be the only person in the world with this issue.
also i heard hp have their windows 7 drivers now available, if only i bought a hp....

You could try swapping out the wireless card in your laptop. I believe they are fairly universal, i recently put an Intel card out of a 2 year old HP laptop into my 8 year old Dell laptop.

Might be cheaper than a brand new laptop

Good luck!

You can get a fairly cheap USB wireless stick or a PCMIA card for $30-$80 that will work in Windows 7 perfectly and just disable the onboard/internal one.

i understand that will work, but it wont fix all my other driver issues.
base score is 1.1 according to windows, i have no graphics card or anything lol.
i asked the computer specialists in town, and they said im screwed. unless i buy a new processor , graphics card. webcam. wireless adaptor. and so on
