Has anyone tried the AFOM plugin for Firefox? :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11922

I've basically dumped FF (3.5.x) for Opera and Chrome, although I still fire up FF for the odd task (no equivalent add-on/functionality in other browsers).

However, this AFOM add-on appears to address the very reason I dumped FF in the firefox in the first place.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it themselves. If so, do you think it's as good as it appears to be?

NOTE: AFOM only works for Windows

And the bit the OP should have included is:

AFOM recovers Memory Leakage within a running instance of the Firefox browser application.

Recursion: See recursion.

And most importantly, why is that Firefox doesn't do it right in first place?

The whole 3.x line was a downgrade from 2.x performance wise.  They've added a lot of new features but they really need to stop and do a big upgrade that focuses on performance soley imo.

Have been using Iron a lot lately, basically Google Chrome with a few annoying things removed. Have been impressed with the speed and performance of it.

Well, have been using AFOM for a couple of days now.

Still in the "trial" period. So far so good. However, I tend to do a number of different things while working so will see how it handles that stress test.

Good question.

I understand Mozilla don't consider the memory leak to be a bug at all - more of a "feature".

Since using the AFOM plugin I can confirm that for me it does what it advertises. Very happy with it, and now use FF as my primary browser again.

I don't use heaps of plugins - only about 12 (not including AFOM).

Memory usage can still be high, however, this correlates with the 40 odd tabs I sometimes have open.

The key thing is that when I close those tabs the memory footprint does shrink.

Highly recommended.

The good news is that v3.5.6 released recently has improved firefox performance in general quite a bit, regardless of whether you're using the AFOM addon.
