I recently did a clean install of windows 7 on an HP dv6700 Notebook.  The computer is actually working great and I'm not having any issues whatsoever.  However, I went to my BIOS out of curiosity to check it out and I cannot navigate in it at all.  The only option I see is a diagnostic test that I must have ran in June of 2009.  I'm not sure if it is a big deal, sort of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" thing, but I wonder if I'll run into issues down the road.  How important is the BIOS and should I try to fix it?

Perhaps this is one of the laptops that has the BIOS configuration all part of a windows utility and no longer an actual BIOS tool in it's own right?

Are you using a external USB keyboard? If so that may be your issue. Try using the laptop keyboard.

How do I know if this is this case? Can I manage the BIOS from the windows utility?

Perhaps try updating the BIOS. Most HP models have a utility to do the update from within Windows. Worth a shot?

Can you check the sticker on the bottom of the notebook and give me the HP part number please? Will be something like"KN084EA".

It appears that there is a newer BIOS update for your notebook but no installer for Windows 7 (latest is designed to be run on Vista). The risk is yours to take if you want to try to run the update with Windows 7. Maybe not worth the hassle, especially if it all goes bad! http://h10025.www1.hp....
