Hi,

I recently purchased (another) used laptop from Trademe which came with a XP Professional key printed on the back. Unfortunately it didn't come with any recovery media or a recovery partition.

If possible, I'd prefer to use a Toshiba OEM CD to avoid activation, as I tend to reformat and reinstall often.
I've tried downloading one online, but it turned out to be fake (it was modified, I'm not entirely sure what was done to it).
If anyone has one that they'd lend/copy/upload to me, it'd be highly appreciated. Again, my understanding is that since I have a legit key, it'd be legal to do so.

Thanks,
Michael

The recovery discs are tied to the particular model of laptop you have,

You will need to ring Toshiba and order a new set of recovery disc.

Just use a normal XP OEM CD, activate, and then use RockXP to save the activation so if you reinstall you can import the activation back in again, using RockXP.

Thanks, I didn't realise this.

So you're saying that there is no generic Toshiba Windows XP CD (as opposed to recovery CD)?

In that case, I guess I'm looking for a generic Windows XP Pro OEM CD. Definitely torrents of that available online, but I'm having difficulty working out which ones are clean and which aren't, so I'd prefer seeing a physical disk if possible.

If you're in Wellington send me a PM and we can organise something.  I've got a few generic ones sitting around.  I think they are service pack 2.

I'm in Auckland, so that won't work. Should probably have mentioned that before.

Thanks anyway though,

If you don't get anywhere finding one on Auckland then get back to me by PM and we'll sort something out Smile
