Hi, first time user, so pl be gentle
My son has HP pavilion laptop with Win 7 and has a problem with IE.

IE homepage is set to Facebook. When he opens IE it opens Facebook then after 2 secs it goes to page Website restore error with message This Tab has been recovered. This lasts for 2 secs then refreshes to Website restore error page with no message then back to Tab recovery message etc....

He has Norton that is running latest definitions and did a full system scan with no adverse rsults.

Can anyone help
Thanks

Try starting IE with no add-ons. If it works then you know there's something there - a toolbar perhaps, a download manager, something causing it.

Most of the IE crashes are actually caused by third party software.

Also, if this is IE 9 Beta then make sure the machine is running with the latest video drivers, seeing IE 9 does use the graphics a lot more than previous versions.

My initial thought is addons.

if disabling them still does not work. no mater what people say uninstall Norton test it. if it works then its norton personally wouldnt have norton on any of my computers.

good paid anitvirus = NOD32

Good free antivirus = Avast.

Just dont go to any dodgy sites while you have no antivrus installed.

also try changing the home page to somthing like google then manually go to the face boot page if it goes there manually reset up the face book as the home page.

just some things to try

Facebook can also have issues with IE - Changing to a different browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox is the recommended option, makes you safer on the web + sites perform quite a bit quicker.

This might be true for Chrome, but not necessarily Firefox. Firefox is actually a memory black hole...

I have no problems with Facebook on IE - which I used regularly as my main browser.

Yes you have a point there - I have found Firefox quite sluggish at times (that's why I use Chrome) - Facebook have to do quite a few workarounds to get chat to work in IE7/8 - IE9 should fix this but I would never go back to IE (Well, what's the point with me being a Linux user 90% of the time?)

There's no way it can be the "Safest Browser" - just do a Google Search and it tells you that.
Google Chrome has half as many results, plus it actually doesn't fail with Web Standards :)

Freitasm, what is this site optimised for? I use Google Chrome mainly for speed, but some times each post is cut off on the right side by the full length right vertical bar where as IE9 does not.

.. Just figured out what the problem is while writing this.. it is only when viewing geekzone in chrome at zoom levels greater than 100%. Could this be a Chrome bug?

It could be, or not. We only really test at 100.

I will update the Geekzone Live Stats post to show the resolutions people use the site on.

My pick is that you have a rogue add-on as well.
Saw exactly that sort of thing about a week ago - someone had installed some sort of 'privacy' add-on that was supposed to stop people looking at their history.
As soon as I disabled it - problem solved.
