I was getting my XP laptop ready to go in for repairs. This included transferring my Thunderbird files to my wife's W7 64-bit system. They've been backed up on there - but we haven't had the correct server info before. When we did we had a few problems - which have just got worse. All the files are currently on my machine - but we've reinstalled Thunderbird on my wife's and still can't get e-mail. When we try other server names it tells us they're wrong - but the right just doesn't connect. it was fine with just my wife's e-mail before all this. Yet it's all perfectly fine on mine.

We have the program installed on D, and the data on F. When we re-installed using the default settings (more or less - still installed on D but not editing profile.ini at all so data is on C) it still won't connect. We're totally confused. We did upgrade to the latest version - but nothing apparently changed - mine still works fine on that version.

We've spent two days on this - googling all sorts of options. My laptop can't go in for much needed repairs until our e-mail can be back working on my wife's laptop. So any ideas very much appreciated.

Probably won't help you now. But I always use Mozbackup for backing up both Firefox and Thunderbird data. Personally I have never had any luck doing it any other way.

Well you're probably right about it not helping but that's interesting. I copied my wife's e-mails over to my machine and it's working fine. Her machine just won't dl anything from TB.

Well, finally after three days the system is working - and it's so simple I'm almost embarrased to admit it. When my wife got a new system we had to get a 64bit anti-virus program - so abandoned AVG and went to Avast. I don't know when or why it suddenly changed it's settings - but Lynette changed them to match my PC and it started working. Don't understand them all - it's the SSL accounts - but it's now working - so now my laptop is in being repaired.
