Hello everyone,

Just got myself a Seagate Momentus XT to replace an overcrowded laptop hard drive...

The laptop is connected and backed up to my WHS.
I'm just wondering if there's any special precaution I need to take before swapping the hard drive?
I'm planning to do a fresh install - or should I? Perhaps just do a backup and restore?

Just thought I should check with fellow Geekzoners before I proceed :)

Thanks!

Joseph

Just in case anyone is interested...

I was trying to upgrade my Dell Inspiron's Samsung HM320JI to Seagate Momentus XT 500GB.

1) I did a manual backup of the laptop to WHS prior to the HDD upgrade.
2) I then swap the HDD.
3) Reboot with the WHS Recovery CD.
4) Went with all the default options (not sure if it's possible, but what I would have prefer is to change the size of some partitions - no big deal here though)
5) Took about 8 hours to recover (let it ran overnight).
6) The computer restarted happily. WHS kept C drive (system) the same size and let D drive (data) have the increased capacity.
7) Updated Momentus XT's firmware, very straight forward here.
8) The Windows performance index for HDD went from 5.4 to 5.9.

It doesn't look like there's any special precaution required for WHS backup/restore - it just worked!
