I've been a user of the Microsoft Money application for a very long time - my main file is 40mb in size, representing 15 years of money flows. It's a complex database with much information.

Microsoft stopped updating the UK version some years ago, only offering US updates (that should have been an alarm bell I guess), and finally shutdown the online feed to Money earlier this year.

No worries I thought, Quicken is a powerful competitor, I'll move when I have time to.

I finally managed to get the trial software today.

There is no conversion tool for any microsoft money files earlier than 2008.

No worries he says, I'll get the sunset version of Microsoft Money Plus, convert my 2003 file to 2008... and away we go.

The converter program in 2008 crashes.

I'm stuck.

Hi

A more manual way to do it is to export each account as a QIF file, then you should be able to import them all into Quicken.

Cheers

I successfully converted my MS Money 2004 file to use in Quicken 2011 using the Quicken Data Conversion Tool and instructions at http://quicken.intuit.com/support/articles/getting-started/upgrading-and-conversion/5521.html

Thanks.

Well, I tried a number of options, including this one above.

In the end I manually rebuilt every account I needed and jettisoned the history.

Back up and running, after 15 collective hours worth of grunt.

lesson: Upgrades are to be ignored at your peril - and that's everything, not just finance software.

Now... if i could just auto-poll foreign stock markets (UK, AUS, US)....
