Hi,

Someone put a Harddisk password on my e-machine laptop, and I can't figure it out or find out who do it. Has anyone ever had to deal with getting rid of one, Luckily i didnt have anything I need to keep on it so I can reformat it if the process requires so.

So does anyone know a way??

Why don't you ask the person/persons who had access to the laptop?

on the harddisk, would of been a lot easier to fix if it was the BIOS.

How is it asking for a password ? Is it just a Windows login password or something else ? If its jsut Windows login, plenty of utils out there that will reset it by booting off a CD.

Turn it on loads the screen where you can change boot order or enter setup, then after that screen it just comes up with the prompt saying to enter the 'harddisk password'.

I can boot alternate OS's I got BT5 working but no use to removing the password.

Search for information on your particular HDD model. What is it exactly?

Some of the results here have general information, and some are commercial utilities developed for unlocking.

Can only change boot order, when I try enter the BIOS i am prompted with being made to enter the 'harddisk password'. To be exact it says:

"Harddisk Security"
SATA Port 0 TOSHIBA MK1665GSX Lock

After I hit enter then it says: "Please input password for TOSHIBA MK1665GSX ?"

The model of the machine is a acer "eMachines eM350-2074 Netbook"

Guess I'll just buy a new hdd and test it out, hopefully it doesnt lock it as well.

If you can prove you own the machine and that it isn't stolen then Acer can remove the Pword for you believe me it's a long road to try doing it yourself I tried with an laptop that had the same thing done to it but because the person who owned it wasn't the original owner and had no proof that they legally owned it acer would not do a damn thing

when a Pword is set for the HDD it is set on a small chip on the HDD itself replacing the HDD should not reinstate the Pword for the new HDD atleast that's how it worked for me but trying to access the Pword'd HDD on another PC is still not possible

One would think it easier to find the person who tampered with your PC than to purchase a new HDD to fix the issue, unless of course the machine it not yours ;)

Report it to the Principal. They will announce that the whole school is on detention until the culprit comes forward and unlocks it. The culprit wouldn't have the guts to come forward themselves but such an act would not have gone without some verbal bravado. He will be pointed out and the whole saga would be resolved. The Principal will then announce a proclamation that such acts are to be banned and any further action of this kind would result in suspension.

Well that's how I see it being played out in a short movie - try it.
