i'm going to install LinuxMint LXDE alongside Windows 7... i'm going to need to partition the single 250GB drive into a few sections, so i'm curious what you guys recommend...

i know i can partition using LinuxMints' partitioning tool upon installation but i'm just abit skeptical about it and would prefer partitioning on Windows 7 itself before installing Linux

You can partition your hard drive from windows itself, Under "Computer Management"

Nope it just shrinks the Windows 7 Partition and leave the rest as unallocated space.
