Hey!
if this is in the wrong fourm, please tell me (:
ive got native windows telnet server runing on my server,
ive installed a pci modem in it, a 56k one, and what im wondering if i can do is this:
be able to dial in from a remote location through hypertermanal and have it answer,
and direct it to a telnet console. this is pretty old school stuff, i dont need to keep the current software,
just has anyone have any idea where to start, any old programs they used to use ext?
because im pretty lost,
could someone please help me?

i used to use pcanywhere for remote dial-in via modem, it was quite reliable but not free..

do you specifically need access via telnet? what are you trying to do on the server remotely?

if you have a windows server, you can always set up a PPTP vpn dial in connection via RAS - no need for additional software it is (or used to be) built into windows. once you have the VPN up, you could then telnet in.

yeah, ive setup a vpn dial in server, i was wondering how does the ringing ext work, does it pick it up automaticly, i have to share the line with non tech savvey people, can i make it pick it up quicky?

you can set the pptp dial in to answer immediately- the others wouldnt even hear a ring...

these days, RDP or VPN direct to the internet is the typical way you remote access your servers... much easier than dialup, and 'always on'

It would also mean that anyone that dialled that number would have the server answer. You can't do this on a line that people may want to use.

thanks (: yeah, that would be as i thought. :/ might have to get in an old mobile and use it as a modem with a cell modem. the reason i wanted to do this was, my familys network sometimes screws up and i need a non internet way to get into the network and control it. mainly the server thats why i wanted to telnet into it, thanks (:

An "old" mobile is the expensive way of doing things. CSD is only available on Vodafone and the per minute charges could make it an expensive exercise. You're better of just using a newer phone or data device and using a GPRS or 3G connection.

yeah, but how would i control it ext? does vodafone have individual ips? can i portfword? how would i go about doing that? i have a spare android phone that i could tether (:
