A friend who is a psychotherapist wants to wipe the hard drive on her PC and reinstall WinXP.  I've offered to help her and have the wiping bit covered.

How can I back up the drivers so I don't have to google for them?  I assume there's a relatively simple way.  I had issues with a recent WinXP install after hard drive failure, and it took a long time to find all drivers, so don't want to go through that again :-)

Many thanks.

I have used Driver Magician in the past, but with mixed results:

It is always a good idea to get the latest drivers from manufacturers anyway.

It isn't usually that hard, motherboard manufacturer's web page will have pretty much everything you need.

You should be able to find the model number of her motherboard written (quite large) on it somewhere, go to the manufacturers web page and look under support and all the drivers will be there (same applies if it is a laptop).

The only other drivers you may need will be for PCI/PCIex cards (eg graphics card if not built into motherboard), and Peripherals like printers and webcams (for which drivers are easy to find off manufacturers web sites if she doesn't have the installation CDs for them).

Thanks I've used driver,ax to make a backup, otherwise will follow your instructions as above.   Have just begun the install actually about five minutes ago, as too hot to be doing chores outside.
