just a reminder that this is due to be released today, or rather tonight NZ time. I've been running Windows 7 since the beta of that came out so am weighing up whether to do the same with Win 8.

Who else is gonna grab it?

Thanks Bill Gates, yep you'd know for sure :)

I wonder if Microsoft Flight will be released at exactly the same time?

If so, I'd imagine Microsoft's servers will be struggling a fair bit.

Looking forward to the Windows 8 Consumer Preview for sure.

I think I'll load it onto my Laptop first though to test it out.
If it's stable enough for day-to-day use, I might consider putting it on my main desktop.
I'm still not so sure about the whole "no-start-menu" thing.

I have been using the developer preview along with couple of other guys at work with no issues. Everything that worked in Windows 7 (apps etc), worked for us in the dev preview. Beta is bound to a LOT better. Looking forward to the integrated skydrive feature on the explorer window.

If it can't be disabled from within Windows there  are 3rd party apps that will give back the traditional start menu and disable the Metro UI.  I did this with the developers preview.

I'd recommend you give it a chance in the Consumer Preview, the way the Start Menu works in the CP is much different than in the DP

Yeah, I re-enabled it in the Dev Preview via a 3rd party app as well, and it was all hunky dory.
I've just heard rumours about the Consumer Preview going further and not being able to re-enable the old-style menu (only feasible menu style for a keyboard and mouse IMO). That may, or may not, be the case though.

For touch devices, I probably wouldn't use anything other than the Metro interface, but I don't see myself getting a Windows 8 based touch device in the very near future. However, that could change after using the Windows 8 Consumer Preview to see what it is up to.
