After messing around with various distros I have returned to Mint-Cinnamom. It just seems more stable and more complete.

On one of my machines I use for testing I am running Ubuntu 18-04 I have been using the Ubuntu version of Gnome 3 and haven't really been happy with it. I installed Unity and it works well. So a question for Ubuntu users here what do you prefer Unity or the Ubuntu Gnome desktop?

My first reaction to Gnome 3 shell was denial and I installed Unity. But week ago I switched back to Gnome 3 shell, spent some time on installing and configuring extensions, themes (Adapta or Materia are actually pretty cool, giving Android 8 like experience) until I got what I liked. The only thing that still frustrates me in Gnome shell is mutli-monitor support, "multi monitors add-on" extension is not even close to Unity. But Unity is dead in long term. 

It's a shame that Canonical decided to shelve Unity, in my opinion Unity is superior to Gnome 3 and KDE. I suspect the decision has a wider implication, my feeling is that going forward Canonical will split off the Desktop to the community much like Redhat and Fedora. Canonical's future is very much in the Enterprise, Server, Cloud and IOT markets and not the Desktop market. I feel we will get 18.10 and 19.04 from Canonical while they firm up the development and move to Gnome 3 and split off during 2019.
