Was running Ubuntu 17.10 on my desktop - upgraded today to 18.04. Feels quite a bit more snappy but other than that no change.

For those running 17.10 you'll note there is no upgrade notification just yet - you can however force an upgrade:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt dist-upgrade
sudo apt install update-manager-core
sudo do-release-upgrade (Note, if this doesn't work, you're running 17.10 (or 16.04) and it is saying "No release available" you can force it with the -d (for development) option.)

And for good measure - here is a screenshot of my Ubuntu installation complete with a Taylor Swift wallpaper. I do run Linux full-time on my desktop machine and rarely boot into Windows.

I do like Linux for servers, and the desktop isn't bad. I mean to get around to scripting my web server with AWS CloudFormation / Chef at some point, to replace Amazon Linux with Ubuntu. AL has a poor selection of packages, so I have to compile more software than I would really prefer, but it'd really just be to learn how before I do the AWS Devops pro exam.

I use Debian 9 for servers personally combined with the Ubuntu LTS for servers I often set up and don't end up touching for years (as livepatch + unattended updates are incredibly good). We use RHEL at work and I find it quite backwards compared to the Debian way of doing things.

I use Ubuntu on my PC as it has up to date packages but in the past have run Fedora, Arch and Debian on my desktop. I just find Ubuntu "just works" in most cases with desktop computers.

I actually can't stand Windows these days. I use it when I have to but always boot back to Linux as soon as I am done. For my laptop I use a Samsung Chromebook Pro. Tried OSX and again, didn't like it. I do need to get around to scripting my servers at some point also.

Using Ubuntu in AWS and Ubuntu at home for the pi-hole.

I tried Ubuntu on my main PC in favour of Windows 10 but I just couldn't get used to it. My primary device is a Macbook Pro and the PC just sits there collecting dust updating Windows 10 every month 👍

Thanks for the mini review! I may download an iso & see how it goes. I predict that this Ubuntu release may cause users far less grief than the about to be released Windows 10 'Spring'.

Successfully completed upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04, however it seems KODI does NOT work on 18.04 just yet...

I like Ubuntu but favourite is Ubuntu-Mate. Was rock solid reliable. However now back to Windows. Part of reason no decent family tree software like family historian or Legacy etc. Do have gramps which is not bad but not up to the quality of the others. Tried with WINE but even though worked to a degree there were many crashes. I can persevere with Gramps. The biggest reason going back is the latest versions Ubuntu and derivatives is they have updated Samba? to 4.7 from 4.3. The result is I can no longer access my windows computer with my movies or my Asustor Nas. The workgroup is blank. I know I could stay with 16.04 but or some other distro but then the security may lapse and the others will eventually also update Samba to version 4.7. Something about the security in it has caused the problem.

Maybe you should give KDE Neon a go. Latest KDE on lastest Ubuntu LTS, with rolling updates to KDE packages. They are updating to Bionic soon.
