ah, yeah give me flatpak or snap any day, self contained/isolated ftw.

There used to be a rating given to any programming language or system that was based on how complex a Hello World program would be.

I think flatpak wins that hands down with hundreds of megabytes to show an 11 character string.

One could argue the same of any windows application, you need to install windows to run it.

Sure if you have one flatpak, then its big, but if you have many that share the base image, then that many hundreds of MB is divided by that many apps using it. Other simplification of how it works, but general idea behind it.

I get that argument, but end of the day, self contained, it just works, as a developer I don't have to make heaps of different distributions.

I'm use to the large file size, coming from the world of .net, its not exactly new you need a framework/something to have it run.

Has anybody else done the upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04? Waiting on release-upgrade to be issue free before running it.

IIRC Ubuntu waits until the .1 release of an LTS to suggest the upgrade. So any bugs can be ironed out first. You can "force" it if you really want.

I have noticed some flakey IPv6 over Wifi (although not tried wired to be fair). Seems to be when waking from sleep. Doesnt seem to (re)acquire its IPv6 address (from SLAAC). Worked ok in previous versions. Only solutions that fix it are a reboot, or running the following:

sudo rmmod iwlmvm
sudo modprobe iwlmvm

Bit annoying TBH.

Wifi card is an Intel AX210.

So I read last night the upgrade from 22.04 to 22.04.1 is going to be around August, upgrade from 23.10 to 24.04 is available now so I plan to try it tonight and see how it goes.

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

I've had some issues with 24.04 LTS that I've actually had to keep installing 22.04 in production cases.

V4L2 and random kernel panics when trying to access any of my streams from V4L2's rawvideo outputs.

Never had this on 22.04 and the hardware I tested didn't change.

I also tried 24.04 LTS in a VM and had install issues with ZFS specifically. EXT4 was fine.
