Hi all, our eldest is six now and a voracious consumer of books and asker of questions. As we all know, the internet is fount of all knowledge... including a whole bunch of knowledge that six year olds shouldn't have.

So, I find myself in a position I've never been in before. We acquired an Acer Aspire One netbook for cheap which we will be giving to him. It's perfect for a kid because a) it's real cheap and b) the keyboard is kid-size. Fast enough for what he needs although Atom will never be setting any land speed records.

Anyhow, I've never been the slightest bit interested in nanny software up till this point having not needed a nanny for a year or two now, so I have no idea what's available. Yes, I will be Googling, but if anyone has any experience I would love to hear it.

I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 on it because Win 7 Starter is rubbish. Preferences given then to packages which play nice with Ubuntu out of the box. Not afraid of low level stuff -- I've been Linux/Unix for longer than I care to admit *cough* -- but to be honest I have more interesting things to do (like not doing low level stuff) so preferable if it Just Works.

I don't have any other spare PCs to act as routers and my modem/AP isn't compatible with Linuxy firmware so those options are currently out of the question - I need something that will run ON the netbook.
