So I have been working on this for a while now and managed to move a unifi controller from an onsite PC to a ubuntu server on amazon web services. now the questions is how do I move it back onsite if I need to. I used the unifi discover tool to reset the UAPs and then set the inform the AWS ip address. I'm not sure how will I set the inform on the ubuntu.

I'm new to the SSH & unifi products. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There was no need to do what you did. The simplest approach would have simply been to upload the backup config to the new controller and then do a DHCP option43 to redirect the APs to the new controller IP. If you can't do Option43 you'll need to do a set-inform via SSH

To bring it back onsite you'd simply reverse the process.

I'm just trying to self teach me about this :) so I followed the steps on http://www.dashos.net/getting-the-most-out-of-unifi/

So i should forget the APs and then re adopt them locally?

If you want to move APs from a local controller to a cloud controller you should simply install the cloud controller then restore your backup config settings from the local controller, then point the APs at it - as I mentioned above either by DHCP Option43 (the easiest approach) or by using SSH to log into each AP and set a new set-inform to point to the new IP.

If you wanted to bring the APs back to a local controller simply install the software again locally, and once again take a backup on the config from the cloud controller and restore it to the local controller and point the APs to the new AP.

There is no need to reset APs unless you're setting up a new controller from scratch and have no backup config file.
