Feeling frustrated been searching for datacenter guru in Christchurch, how hard is it to find Linux / VMWare skills?

Depends.. There are a bunch of people with those skills around as I deal with them on a regular basis.

Want to PM me and I might be able to arrange an introduction, but I'd need some specifics.

Try containing the various Linux user groups in Christchurch/Canterbury, you might have some luck that way.

If they don't need to be in Christchurch, which most likely they don't; and if you are prepared to pay the rates, then there are options out there.

I'm not familiar with Christchurch suppliers, but my business does work there. FYI I charge $185-250 p.h. for my Linux / VMware consultants. But I'm not an option for you because that service line is an adjunct to my main business - I don't do Linux/VMware standalone.

I'm thinking you are looking for an employee. From your first post I thought you were after a one-off short term project resource. My comments only apply to that.

VMware has become a very big and complex product, a specialty by itself.  In turn I suspect you'll only find someone who can do both in either Wellington or Auckland where businesses big enough to support such a skill set are.

I dont know what you are expecting to pay and that depends on the depth of knowledge you are looking for but be prepared to pay 90k+ for someone who really knows what they are doing in both.

Its really more of a "your problem" Chch doesnt need these skills its simply too small.   Probably a) contract it b) move it to Wellington or Auckland.   Oh and Vmware relies pretty heavily on Windows and MSsql so you need someone with those skills as well, plus storage.

Did you really dig up a 2 month old thread to make such a stupid statement? Also, do you know what VMWare is?

Try Vultr using this link and get us both some credit:

Well the comment about Chch not needing the skills made me laugh.

Guess I can tell my employer I'm not needed anymore, but I don't want to move to Auckland or Wellington.

A few applications without the experience required, the person needs to hit the ground running and be independent on work shifts. The role is advertised on Seek and LinkedIn. Thanks
