Looking for some new software to install on Ubuntu and try out. Have the standard programs that come with Ubuntu, but what are your favourite apps that you find useful?
If you want to produce grouse printed documents I recommend the LaTeX typesetting program.
LaTeX is a mark-up language, just like HTML, but for printed material rather than web sites.
There is a learning threshold you must overcome, but once you have mastered the basics you will wow others and yourself with the quality of your printed output.
If you you run a KDE desktop I recommend you install the Kile.LaTeX frontend
I was pretty disappointed with most popular Linux media players for Gnome (Rhythmbox, Exaile, Banshee,...) as they all lack some important features for properly managing a large collection. Fortunately recently I found Quod Libet that offers great features for handling large collections (tag editing,download cover,file renaming,...), I can't believe this program has so little attention.
+ uTorrent running under Wine. I couldn't help myself.
