I have 10.10

There isnt that much visibly different from 10.04 LTS however the difference in Gnome's clarity is amazing. I would say the visual upgrade is along the same line of iOS4 on a 3GS and iOS4 on the 4G with its retina display. Its just so crisp!

Still <3 the 4 second boot on my netbook!

4 seconds? I find that slightly hard to believe.

I prefer to wait a few weeks to upgrade. Too many bad experiences with 0-day upgrades :)

bootchart can prove it, of course, bootchart ignores bios boot time, but they're really quick on netbooks anyway. I don't find it too far fetched, my laptop is about 12 seconds + about 4 seconds for the bios. And that's a full blown desktop.

When I see "time to boot" I always keep wondering "when it ends?"

For me "time to boot" is from the moment I hit the button and I have a responsive desktop ready to start apps. Not with the login screen, not with the "Loading..." message, but when I can move the mouse cursor around, double click a program and have it actually open.

How are you measuring?

So far it looks good, but its not working so great. My wireless adapter wont connect, even though it shows a full signal. After about 30 seconds it just says wireless disconnected or similar. It was working fine in 10.04

I had major problems, unsolved, getting internet to work on 10.04. I have just spent a frustrating 2 hours downloading 10.10 only to find there is nothing there when I try to burn the CD. I have now had enough of this Linux crap that does not work.

All i can say is look at this page, specifically at point 2 and 3. Ubuntu is designed to let you try it in a "live" trial before installation.

What do you mean nothing there? If there is no CD image (iso etc) then its possible your connection blipped and cancelled the download. It's best to use resumable download managers for this. I use getright but im sure there are other good ones, just google it.

If you can tell us exactly what went wrong with the download etc perhaps we can help.

Good luck

Min

Sorry to say this, but this sounds like a serious case of PEBKAC.

10.10 upgrade broke grub, but only took 5min to fix. booted and everything was exactly how I left it, except with some shiny new features and toys to play with :D

Separate home directory, some backup cron jobs and the ability to control the OS completely via terminal means that if something did break, no biggy.

I'll never use windows as my primary OS again.

Yeah I've been free of Windows as my main OS for about 3 years now. I do dualboot on my laptop and desktop - but my laptop was linux only for a long time.

I had to have it installed now though because my degree requires lots of solidworks and matlab work. Neither has a suitable (and compatible) linux replacement.

Of course it's on my desktop for the odd game, matlab and solidworks, I also usually write my reports in windows as office 2007 is quite stable enough in wine for my liking, and Open Office doesn't do equations. Which is a must for lab reports.

So that's the reason I cannot be Windows free. Unfortunately I likely never will be copletely. Such is the nature of my work.
