Wilko: I have never heard of Zorin before, but after looking at its website, I am quite impressed - might give it a try.
Wilko: I would suggest downloading Ubuntu 11.10 and write it to a CD or USB stick. Then you can try ubuntu by booting from the CD or USB stick. That way you can try the program out without installing it to the hard drive.
One thing that seems to cause a problem with the L300 is the wifi. the following web page seems to have a solution: http://www.webtolife.co.nz/content/installing-ubuntu-toshiba-l300.
I feel that Ubuntu 11.10 is an ideal replacement to Windows for non-technical users (like me). I now prefer it as my main os. I only use Windows for the one program that I need but is un-available in linux. I can even use Draftsight CAD program as a replacement for Autocad.
