Just surfing the net.
I might have tried to restore one file from iDrive (but not sure if I’d already done that).

I’m happy to format the drive, but that’s not even possible.
I did a command option R restart, where it takes me to Internet Recovery, but I’m stuck on the globe, after I’ve chosen my WiFi.

Nothing happens. Just loads like it did before and then does the error screen (your computer restarted because of a problem…)

How about holding down the D key only on startup

It comes up with a ‘checking your Mac’ message for a couple of mins.

Then this screen:

After hitting Get Started, I’m stuck on the loading screen:

Took it into a Mac Shop. They can’t do anything. Logicboard gone. Not worth repairing.
I paid over $4k for this. Yes, it’s 7 years old, but still.

I would expect more from a $4k device. I guess I was wrong.

Condolences, always a bit hard to retire tech you’ve had for a while.

As FineWine’s already mentioned, tech isn’t particularly designed for long life. Prices aren’t an indicator for how long something will last, most modern stuff you will unlikely see anything over a 1-3 year warranty aside from individual parts warranty. This will usually tell you when it’s expected to be ‘replaced’.
