Yeah, in the end I bought it from StudentIT as I found I qualified for Education pricing. They upgraded my ram from 1GB to 4GB for only $100 as well, so overall quite happy :-)
magu: Do you know www.toshbuy.com? They usually have better discounts than DSE and the purchase process seems to be a lot easier.

Yep, I got my MBP from them a few years back. The DVD drive conked out after 6 months and I had absolutely no trouble with getting it replaced under warranty.
I second that - helpful bunch who went out of their way to send my MBP super quick just before Xmas 2007. The parcel arrived on Boxing Day!
My DVD drive also threw a hissy fit 10 months later but the warranty is with Apple, not the store you buy it from. That means you just take it to any Apple authorised workshop and your warranty will be honored against the serial number of your unit. In my case that workshop was Magnum Mac in ChCh - I couldn't fault their service either!

I'm shocked by that, I ordered a new laptop for my Mom from DSE in January and paid for it with my Mastercard and the order was processed without any query. In my case the laptop was to be delivered to my Mom's address and not my address (the Mastercard address is my addresss).
I will not be dealing with DSE again, but only because I found their mail order to be incredibly slow and I had to make numerous phone calls to find out what was happening (the laptop was in stock, they claimed they had a backlog in order processing). Three weeks for mail order is not good enough in my book.
zactommo: Why the heck would you buy a mac from DSE? There prices aren't really that competitive at all, probably even with 10% off Buying new, i'd always go for the apple store online, but I tend to go for the refurbished apple store deals, they are the best without a doubt!!

DSE have really picked up their game in the last few years. I still have trouble walking in the door and not feeling like I'm gonna get stung, but you do see them selling gear at competitive prices today. I'd advise you to look again. It is really handy that they are *everywhere* :)
If you don't believe me, check Pricespy. DSE are competitively priced in enough places that it's worth checking out. Still pricy as hell for cables and things though! Razors & razorblades, etc.
