ShellNZ: Trust me....I do want it done for free but I cant be arsed going thru disputes tribunals etc

It's not that difficult. I've been there twice. Allow 30 minutes to fill out the paperwork and 1 1/2 hours to attend the hearing.

When you get your money back that's a pretty good hourly rate :)

Its probably too late now......told them yesterday to go ahead

Yeah, I would agree with Graemeh.

I've been there once, dispute with insurance company about a car accident. half of my friend saying that this case is hard to point who's fault, a few says it is clear other party's fault, insurance company insist it is my fault. It took about half hour for the hearing or less. Saved me about 2 grand. But I did put a few hours for download and fill the form, and a little bit research about similar cases in tribunal database.

Yeah, too late for me for sure!

But really, it's just about trade-off of your time and money, and involved a little bit risk and potential reward.

Why is it too late? You can always apply to the disputes tribunal to have the money refunded. If they have an obligation to fix it free of charge under the Consumer Guarantees Act that obligation doesn't go way just because they made you pay to get the repair done.

Yes, I know someone who has done that in the past. You get it repaired, and then apply for a refund to the general manager of the company, and say if you don't recieve a refund within a certain period, that you will take it to the disputes tribunal. The DT can then decide who is in the right. It does however depend on what has happened to the computer, and whether they can prove that it is damage or a failure of the product.
