Hi all,

Just ordered one of these off amazon. Will run it against my macbook for a few encodes once it arrives and post the relative timelines.

Thought it was worth noting the difference in price:

cheapest in NZ (Ascent) = $183
Amazon = $139

Seriously, is there any way to somehow default the Geekzone Amazon associate link with my Amazon account?

I just bought something through amazon the other day and flat out forgot that geekzone can get a commission on all types of purchases (not just kindle stuff).
Actually, is that correct? The geekzone-amazon associate link will give geekzone commission on all purchases, not just kindle?

Correct. Use that link for any Amazon account. And no, we do not ban people because they don't use the link. We actually don't even know who buys, we just see what have been ordered, but not who ordered.

Ha!

Was actually looking at Kindles and thought about the geekzone link. Didn't realise it worked for other stuff. Will remember next time.

So if I change my main Amazon.com bookmark to
http://www.amazon.com/?tag=geekzone-20
geekzone will get the commission?

Or do you have to have a product code in front of the tag in order for it to work?

Nice. Bookmark changed!
Set and forget.

:)

Will it also work for Amazon.co.uk?

No. Only US. And back on topic now - we hijacked it!

Yes, yes we did. ;-)
Sorry about that.

This looks like a pretty nifty wee thing, though. A shame it's only for mac.
Compared to a dedicated GPU card, what's it like?

It certainly makes a difference. I re-encoded 1080i from tv3 to an apple tv compatible 720p. Normally this would take about 3-4x as long as the video on my 2009 Macbook.

With the turbo it converted it at about realtime.

Eg. Before - 2:00 movie going from 1080i to 720p would take 6-8:00 hours, now takes 2 hours.
