This is an interesting bug that has cropped up - and I really want to avoid having to rebuild the mac, as it doesn't need rebuilding.

I run bootcamp on this machine. There is no recovery partition.

I have been through snow leopard and lion installs without issue, but mountain lion won't proceed because there is no recovery partition available - and no way to bypass in the installer.

Anyone found a way around this? The apple website isn't particularly helpful, as most answers seem to point towards 'rebuild'.

I haven't tried this myself, but apparently the method documented there bypasses the recovery partition.

In the end, I removed Boot Camp (which thankfully wasn't being actively used), and this resolved the installation problem.

Thats odd, I am running 10.8 on my MBP and bootcamp with Windows 7. When I hold option while booting it gives me the option to boot off the recovery partition. Had you installed the 10.7 recovery update before installing 10.8?

I followed my nose like any other user would and double clicked software. ML thought I had subpartitioned Boot Camp - I hadn't - and refused to go further.

I wasn't going to follow the 'make your own install' processes or reinstall the OS... so found an easy enough way around. Issue might have been that it was a WinXP license....

I like ML.

Im running parallels on my MBP running ML, makes it easy to run windows or linux on it on Mac

Except them wanting another yearly subscription fee for full ML support. It does seem to work pretty well, I had it playing a game in Windows on one monitor and using OS X in another.

Quite amazed that the OS can access 2 different GPU's to run different monitors.
