My iTunes content is on an external (USB) drive and I want to move it to a larger drive (Firewire). I've copied the content to the new drive and changed the media location in iTunes. The mobile applications and most movies are found, while some movies are not. Most music has not come accross (only 5 out of about 300 albumns).

Before I manually rebuild the library, are there any tips out there as to how the media linking works and if there is something I can do to make this more consistent in the future?

how did you copy the content from itunes to the usb drive?
If you did copy paste from within itunes to the stick then when pasting I have seen everything change to mp4 and / or whatever that apple codec extentsion is containing the number 4 (sorry I cant remember as I dislike itunes).

Have you tried simply just copying the entire music folder to the usb stick then pasting this into the chosen device then re-run the itunes libary rebuild or whatever its called?

You have to consolidate the library

I used finder to copy the iTunes content from one drive to the other, then changed the media location in preferences to point to the new drive.

I've not consolidated the library, I'll up how to do that now....

Tried consolidation but that did not fix it. I've just manually rebuilt the Music library and updated broken movies.
