If I buy a Time Capsule can I backup all data, internal HDD and FireWire. My Mac is old and due to a variety of reasons it's limited to Snow Leopard. The Mac has a limited capacity so I'm using a 2TB external drive and wanted to backup to a 3TB Time capsule.

No.

Time capsule with back up the system and user space, i.e. if the files under you home profile.

Anything on external hard drives will be considered that, external and not part of the system/user space.

If you want a more complex backup solution then you should look at things like Carbon Copy Cloner

Thanks for that, saved me spending money on something that doesn't do what I need.
