Hello everyone,

I am new to here, and I have a problem that doesn't make much sense to me!
I have two computers, one is my old PowerBook G4, and the other is my new MacBook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo that I bought in Japan (I am Japanese, so if my English is not correct, please excuse me!).

Now, I have Xtra broadband account, and have D-Link ADSL Router. When the modem is on, PowerBookG4 can always connect to internet, but MacBook sometimes connects, and sometimes not!

It finds "D-Link" OK, but when I click on "D-Link" it thinks and thinks and comes up with message meaning "there is a problem connecting to D-Link". Having said that, it sometimes connects without choosing "D-link" at all... just automatically.

As PowerBookG4 is working fine, I think ADSL Router or Xtra are working fine. Then what is the problem with MacBook? I know that it has different system (811n?) is used for this AirMac, but I have it checked by local shop Magnum Mac and they say that the setting is fine... but, but, it still doesn't connect internet from time to time!!

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have the latest firmware for your D-Link.

Try turning the security on your D-Link off if that works, try adjusting the security to WPA, Cipher Type set to TKIP, and PSK/EAP set to PSK.

You could also try turning off MMQoS (if it's there)

Thank you very much for your reply, and wow, I never thought there were so much settings for the router... I will look into it and hopefully I can make out what has to be done!!

I had a similar problem when I first got my Macbook - it drove me insane. I eventually convinced Xtra to send me a new 604T, and it's been workin fine ever since!

This doesn't explain the fact that your Powerbook is working fine, but hmmm, I'd still give it a shot if all else fails ;)

Hello, Spazz,

Thank you for your post. Yes, it really drives me crazy too! And very disappointing experience as well.... but possibly my d-link's old firmware is the problem. I am just going to get help from computer friend, who knows Windows very well as well. Oh, and I wrote to D-link and D-link answered that they had never heard of this problem before!! Can it be!?? I will post once I fix the problem (fingers crossed!).
