Is anyone else suffering from issues with iTunes locking up with the October update? I'm running SnowLeopard and all was fine for a long time, but then an update came along which I foolishly accepted without reading what was in it. Now iTunes locks up when iOS devices sync over WiFi. We have many devices so it may be a quantity issue?

It's more likely an out of date OS issue.

I'm up to date on OS, it seems to be a combination both the iTunes and OS update (4th Oct) seems to have caused this problem. There are no further updates offered. I'm currently ejecting devices as soon as they connect and that seems to be keeping iTunes running, not a great solution.

It appears to be a problem with Applications rather than WiFi sync (I think the WiFi sync tries to read Application data and that causes it to hang). I can now consistently replicate the hang by opening the Application view.

Last month I started having a problem with iTunes where every minute or so it will freeze up with the beachball icon for 30 seconds or so, then resume. I was still experiencing this last night after having installed the October update.

I don't actively use wireless syncing because it's never worked reliably for me, but I've never figured out how to disable it so it's possible that wireless syncing may be unintentionally kicking in and triggering problems.

It appears (ongoing testing to confirm) to be a timing issue. Application about talking cats wanted to perform and update at the same time (I'm guessing it was an iOS 7 compatibility update), and the update was causing the hang. I've deleted two applications called "Talking Ginger" and "Talking Tom", and so far so good.

The down side of shared Apple account.

By out of date I mean Snow Leopard being almost 3 full revisions behind the current.

Snow Leopard has Frontrow. My laptop is nothing more than an iTunes server and an Apple TV impersonator.

Not quite the same but issues, yes.

I have a BNIB iMac running ML and the latest iTunes.

It rarely plays any song in Match that is not physically present on the disk - just tries to stream, fails and moves to the next track. etc, often quoting 'error 8007'

Updating iPhone apps on the Mac via iTunes is equally hopeless. Often if I open the download window in iT, click Pause All then Resume All several times it will 'clear' but not always.

Maddening.

Yep I'm sure you have your reasons for using it don't get me wrong, it's up to you.

In my experience though, the further away from a current OS version you are, the less inclined the developers are to focus on making sure their software works with your version.  So while it might work well on the whole, there will be bugs, and the further away you get the more prevalent those bugs will be....until you become an unsupported OS for their app :)

So I'm guessing it's a bug on SL that Apple don't care very much about otherwise it would have been squashed in beta - or perhaps in the first point release of 11.1.  (11.1.1 or 11.2 maybe?)

From what I can deduce it was a bug in an iOS application upgrade and not iTunes itself. Either way I'll not take any more updates to iTunes nor the OS.

Ideally, one day Apple will create an iTunes server, i.e. built into an AirPort device and I can do away with OSX.

Or iTunes on Windows working with multiple iOS devices would suffice.

Never gonna happen, especially with their focus on Match now.
