Hi everyone

I have been running Mavericks for a few weeks now and I wondered if anyone else was having issues with certain app's running slow. I have found my machine is very slow to get running after it is left overnight. The machine isn't shut down or put to sleep the display just turns off as I quite often log into it remotely.

I have also found MS office apps now take 1-2 mins to open from scratch. I am running Office 2011 and have checked to updates.

My machine is a new 21" iMac and my new MacBook Pro has the same issues. I suspect its the new energy saving components of Mavericks but I wondered if anyone else has been having the same issue.

Sorry if this is long winded its to early in the morning for my brain to be awake.

Thanks

Are you leaving your browser open overnight? or you have another App that is using up memory. Check the memory\CPU usage when you first use in the morning to what is happening.

Shouldn't take 1-2 mins to open an application unless something else is hogging all resources.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder and you can check the CPU / disk activity etc. and sort by which apps are using it.

App Nap might be putting your applications to sleep and taking a while to wake them up when you need them. You can set up which apps you want to exclude from App Nap in the System Preferences.

I have found that if I leave Safari open all night I will only have a few MB of memory free of the 8 GB that I have.

No apps are left open over night.
