Installed Mac OS 10.4.10 update today. The system went into "Optimizing system performance" at about 3pm. It's almost 5:45pm and the thing is still going.

Who said Mac OS works well?

Good luck to users of this update. After more than three hours I had to reboot the machine. Great piece of software - not!

Best piece of trolling I've seen in a while Mauricio! I fully agree OSX is not worth it

Installed it here. Entire process including download took less than 20 minutes, I will try it on my other mac and see how long it takes.

Reboot is required, though thats in line with most system updates whether its mac or windows.

I am not particularly worried with the reboot. But having to press the Power button to restart it because the update is taking more than three hours is not acceptable.

Does it work fine after the hard reboot or are you still having issues?

What hardware? (iMac G4?)

Yes, it worked after the hard reboot. I wouldn't want things like this happening.

Yes, one of the original iMac G4.

Other mac did it under 20 minutes also, once I got access to it.

While it is in that 'Optimizing performance' state, it is possible to force quit which is similar to the end task command in windows (which I have to use often with IE).

You may have stumbled into a long know bug.

The "Optimising system performance" message is what the installer displays when it's updating prebinding (which incidentally has been depricated in 10.4 due to changes in the dynamic loader)

If you happen to click and launch an application during this, and the application tries to load a dynamic library which hasn't been prebound yet, things fall to pieces, you can run into filesystem corruption issues too.

Prebinding appears to be gone all together in 10.5

But as far as the update itself is concerned, no issues here. Installed it on four machines today, no issues so far. Our remaining 33 will be updated in the weekend.

Took no time at all to install here...nothing compared to sp2.
