Yes, I'm on Leopard and will be for the life of my mac mini as that is where Front Row ended.

My current version of iTunes (11.2.2) wifi sync does not work and it will crash if I transfer files to the "automatically add directory" via SCP (SMB is fine).

I'm considering upgrading (12.01.26) but was wanting to check with other Leopard users for warnings & gotchas.

What is your dependency on Front Row?

According to Apple's site, iTunes 12 requires OS 10.7 so it looks like the question is moot.

Edit: Although 11.2 isn't supported either, so maybe it will work with a bit of fiddling...

I'm trialling it on my Lion machine, however, as above it maybe moot.

I think you can get Front Row on Snow Leopard.

Yes indeed, I omitted "snow", was an oversight.

Front Row was included in Snow Leopard, and there are apps which enable it and bring it back for Lion.

An alternative could be to get an AppleTV, upgrade the Mac mini to Yosemite and use Airplay between the two devices. Another idea would be to try out one of the many open source media centre applications which also support more codecs as well such as Kodi (formally known as XBMC).

I tested the latest iTunes on my MacBook and it did not address the core issues so turns out to be mute point.

I have 3 Apple TVs through the house currently, the MacMini is a cheap (bought second hand for $200) solution for the TV in the games room, so buying another Apple TV would be over capitalising the solution.

Thanks for the tip, but an OS update is not required, so Front Row will remain unaffected.
