This is incredible... You don't need any external program to actually hack into anyone's iMac by creating a new Administrator account.

Anyone care to explain again security?

for the record, it's possible to reset adminstrator - or any other - password on Vista, XP and Linux systems too, having physical access and a little knowledge negates most security practices.

Vista barely changed the SAM file layout at all, just used stronger hash, anyone can crack Vista passwords in minutes with good dictionaries and tools ;-)

If I have physical access to your machine, does it matter whether or not I have to use an external program? I mean, even assuming that none of these holes existed and you couldn't overwrite password hashes or what have you in order to get in, what would stop me from taking your hard drive with me?

And if we're going to get picky... isn't it equally unbelievable that Vista still doesn't salt passwords?

That's why I invested in a literal firewall.

Guys I am just back from the restaurant. I had dinner with the Sr. Director Global operations, Symantec Security Response... You wouldn't believe some of the stories I heard.

And he said what I have been saying before, that is there's no secure OS, just people targeting the OS with wider market penetration...

Yup, which makes the users of certain OSes statistically safer. :-)

This is assuming you have the physical hardware in your posession, which makes you a theiving wan^&r, and may the good lord cut your throat as soon as he can.
Anyone can get into your drives content if they physically have it regardless of OS, thats a pointless example of forum spam.
