The folks at Vodafone New Zealand have updated their VMC software for Mac OS X, used to manage the 3G cards and vodem, making it compatible with the all new Mac OS X Leopard.

You can download the VMC software for Mac OS X here (20 MB), while it is not in the official Vodafone New Zealand website.

They have tested the software and did not found any problems - but if you feel something is not right, leave comments here.

UPDATE: I had to remove the download per request of Vodafone because of a small problem they found just after I posted it here. It will be back later.

Thanks Mauricio,

oddly enough I am using the VMC (Novatel XU870) with the pre-leopard drivers.
The issue with WWAN update from tiger was the issue, as automatically applied the update in Leopard,

At the weekend VF had pulled the temporary fix from the site.  I should update just to be sure.

as posted elsewhere

Thought I was needing to uninstall Leopard as the Vodafone VMC card would no longer work. It appears that the WWAN software update from Tiger is automatically applied under Leopard.

Delete the following files:
/System/Library/Extensions/IOSeria lFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/Appe VerizonSupport.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/IOSeria lFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/Appe VerizonSupportKicker.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/IOSeria lFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/Appe WWANSupport.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/IOSeria lFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/Appe WWANSupport1.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/IOSeria lFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/Appe WWANSupport2.kext

Empty the trash.
Uninstall the Novatel Merlin XU870 driver.
Reinstall the Novatel Merlin XU870 driver and restart the computer.
Reinstall the VF installer and restart the computer.

After reboot - Start Vodafone Mobile Connect.app and activate the modem.

All is good!

I've struggled with this for a while. I use my Novatel 3G Card every day, and I got it working under Leopard, sort of, by using the software which Voda have now pulled. In particular, every time I disconnected or lost a session I had to do a complete restart of my Powerbook otherwise it wouldn't reconnect. Don't know about you, but I hardly *ever* restart my Macs.

Anyway, I've solved this by putting together material spread across the Net, and particularly here. My 3G card works better than it ever did under Tiger. Woo-hoo!

Here are the steps.

- Remove card from lappie

- Delete the old version of the Novatel modem in System Pref / Network. (Mine had two versions, I zilched them both)

- Reboot

- Download and install the latest driver from Novatel

- Insert card

- Add back the Novatel modem in Systems Pref / Network

- Select Advanced and the WWAN tab then chose Novatel as the vendor, OK

- Reopen Advanced, select GSM, APN of www.vodafone.net.nz, CID of 1, OK

- Test by hitting Connect. Verify you are connected, then Disconnect.

- Create a location (Edit Locations from the pull down at the top of Network Prefs) called Voda or whatever

- Make sure your Novatel is set up under this location as described above, and check "Connect automatically when needed"

- Hit Apply

Your lappie should now connect to Voda automagically when you select the Voda location in the Apple menu.

There is no need to run the VMC connect software again, or at all. Just say no. Dump it out of your dock, you know you need the space.

Usual Caveats: This has worked for me. It might for you. If it doesn't, trashes your computer or steals your significant other, neither I, Vodafone nor Mauricio are responsible. Sorry.

Cheers
