What broadband are you using? DSL or cable?

Read the instructions in the booklet. There you should find the address for this router. Plug it to your modem, turn it on, connect to it from your Mac and open the IP address on your browser.

If all is ok you shold by default get to the Internet straight away.

Next step is then login as administrator on that IP address and configure passwords for administrator and enable wireless security.

It's all in the menus from there.

Are you connecting this to your existing modem? Because all you have purchased is a broadband router. Without a modem you are going nowhere FAST!

Forget the CD. It's just a guide on how to configure.

Plug the ethernet cable from this router to your modem. turn it on. Connect with the Mac.

You might have to configure your current modem to hand IP addresses in one range, and the new router in another range. This will depend if your current modem is a router as well, how it's configured, etc.

Hard to say without knowing your network. But this is the idea behind the configuration you must setup.

For ease of use I would recommend you get a modem/wireless router all in one.

Something like

Linksys ADSL Wireless 4 port Modem Router WAG200G
http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/product/XH1319

It is also cheaper, aslong as you buy it today.

Otherwise you may find it A LOT of work to get your current equipment working together.

What type of router is it? many won't let you connect to the web configuration by default until you connect via cable first.

This is a security measure to stop people being their routers open to hackers who can just connect either without a password or by using the default password.

Is this laptop the only one in the house?

Assuming the router allows wireless connections before it is setup, on your laptop search for wireless networks and connect to it.

True. I suggest you return this router and get the cheaper one. Having two routers in your network will cause problem since it looks like you not comfortable with DHCP configuration and other network tasks.

Here is where i am currently at: Currently in the router i have..The power cord, Ethernet cable i got with the router connected between the router and the ethernet on my modem and also I have the old ethernet cable (The one i got with my MODEM YEARS AGO) in between the phone link/jack thing and Lan 1. Is the last bit right i am not sure?

A window has popped up on my current laptop (Which isnt the Macbook air) and wants to me "Set network location". It has 3 options: Home, Work and public location. Is this what is meant to happen or am i doing it all wrong? Im not sure what wires are meant to be in where lol.

NOTHING IS WIRED UP TO THE MAC THE WIRES ARE ONLY RUNNING BETWEEN MY ROUTER AND MY MODEM.

Assuming this popup correctly shows this as the new router, it means it's alive. You could try using the Internet from this computer to check.

You don't need to setup the router from the Mac laptop. Use this computer if it's already seeing the router.

Well, that's the idea of "wireless", right?

Again, if everything works, fine. If anything stalls, follow previous advice and get an all in one router.
